A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

HELLO NEW YORK CITY!

I started Highway to High School with one mission in mind: to provide low-income students of color with the same quality of high school admissions preparation available to their wealthier peers. Having taught math at Bronx Science, I am intimately familiar with the lack of diversity among the student body at the city's most selective schools.

But don't take my word for it -- check out the links here for news articles relating the significant obstacles African American and Hispanic students face when applying to these programs.

THE TRUTH IS...
many families pay large sums of money for one-on-one standardized test preparation and admissions mentoring. SHSAT tutoring packages can cost thousands of dollars, and well-off families will pay with good reason: the score on the exam is the sole criterion for admission to the specialized high schools, and customized one-on-one tutoring is the most successful preparation. Needless to say, most cannot afford this, so Highway to High School is and always will be a free program.

SINCE THE PROGRAM'S FOUNDING,

our students have enjoyed wonderful success, with almost half securing an offer of admission to one of the specialized high schools. But our efforts are not focused exclusively on this network of eight schools. We also provide professional-grade mentoring so that the students can discover the best fit school for them. This combination of mentoring and test-prep sets Highway to High School apart.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS,

and we look forward to expanding the program so that even more students can achieve their educational dreams. Let's bridge the admissions gap together!
